With
the fast growing popularity of the Apple iPhone Mitrais has been commissioned by
an equally fast growing number of clients to develop iPhone applications for a
diverse range of markets.
The applications include one that uses the iPhone camera device, as well as
the accelerometer sensor for user interactions. Another accesses an iPod media
library to retrieve user media files while another application interacts with
the iPhone GPS hardware and Google Maps API to retrieve and display user
locations on maps.
One application developed by Mitrais software engineers even makes use of
SQLite, an embedded database that comes with iPhone.
One thing in common with all these applications is that they capitalize on
the iPhone’s strong user experience feature - animation and audio library are
commonly used in the applications to highlight the experience.
The
iPhone has quickly become a very popular smart phone choice, due in no small
part to its iPhone OS operating system, also used in iPod Touch, which allows a
rich and powerful user interaction through its touch screen. This includes
complex gestures using a multi-touch feature, allowing simulation of real object
physics, such as zooming in and out just by 'pinching' the screen.
iPhone OS support for third party applications, in form of the release of
iPhone Software Development Kit (SDK) in 2008, opened up a totally new field of
play for mature software developers such as Mitrais.
The SDK allows developers to develop native applications for iPhone and iPod
Touch and upload the application to those devices, provided that the developer
joins the Apple Developer Connection. They are then able to sell their
applications in the App Store, allowing easy access by iPhone users all over the
world.
